CUPRA, the sporty and electrified brand of the Volkswagen Group, focuses its strategy on emotion, performance, and distinctive design, gradually integrating electrification. Originally centered on high-performing thermal models derived from SEAT, CUPRA quickly evolved towards hybrid rechargeable (PHEV) with the Formentor and Leon e-HYBRID, then towards 100% electric (BEV) with the Born, based on the MEB platform of the group.
The strategy aims to establish CUPRA as a fully electrified brand in the long term. The SUV coupé Tavascan (BEV) and the future SUV Terramar (planned with new generation PHEV powertrains with high electric range) mark key steps. An electric city car inspired by the UrbanRebel concept is also planned to democratize access to CUPRA's electric performance. However, facing market dynamics, especially for its planned expansion in the United States, CUPRA is adjusting its strategy by considering hybrid rechargeable powertrains for certain future models (such as a large SUV for the US market), while maintaining the long-term objective of all-electric.
